Mikindani, near Mtwara
Mikindani lies in the very south of Tanzania, about a one hour drive from the Mozambique border. The area is still very much ‘off the beaten track’ and wonderfully undeveloped, showing Tanzania at its unspoilt best.
Getting Here
Guests are advised to travel to Dar es Salaam and then to drive or fly down to Mikindani. Dar es Salaam is served by KLM, Qatar, Emirates, Swiss, Kenyan and Ethiopian Airlines.
By Road:
Mikindani is on the main tarmac road from Dar es Salaam to Mtwara. The journey south is approximately 500km so depending on the frequency of breaks and driving speed, the journey takes between six to eight hours. Travelling like this is a great way to see even more of the country and gives you the additional opportunity to visit Selous Game Reserve and the ancient port city of Kilwa.
By Air:
There are regular flights between Dar es Salaam and Mtwara that take approximately one hour. Mtwara is the nearest major town and regional capital just 6 miles south of Mikindani.
