THE OLD BOMA HOTEL
“Southern Tanzania’s Best Hotel” Rough Guide to Tanzania, July 2015
This historic building has been lovingly restored to its former colonial glory to give guests a unique Tanzanian experience.
The Old Boma Hotel overlooks Mikindani Bay, a large, well protected harbour in the south of Tanzania, and offers a variety of excursions for guests wishing to explore the area and enjoy the local culture, beaches, marine and wildlife. For the less adventurous, or those simply looking to unwind in beautiful surroundings, the hotel facilities include the Afya Spa, Poolside Restaurant, sunset terrace, bar, gift shop and swimming pool.
The Old Boma is run by Trade Aid, a charitable trust that actively promotes sustainable tourism. This is achieved by providing vocational and environmental education, training and employment within the local community. The hotel is entirely staffed by locals supported by Tanzanian Managers and European volunteers. Trade Aid works with the national, regional and local government of Tanzania on a variety of community projects including hospitality training, language classes, and conservation programmes. All the projects encourage sustainable employment,
education and environmental responsibility.
